Each year represents a time when D.C. was named the ‘Murder Capital of country’. To this day, violence is so ingrained into our city, we tell our loved ones to “be safe” when we part ways.
This design is titled ‘be safe’. This is a phrase often used when friends or loved ones depart from each other. It alludes to the violent history of Washington D.C.; a history that dates back to being referred to as the ‘Murder Capital’ in the 90’s. As a result, many young adults were raised in a culture that constantly reminded us to be safe, in hope that we would not fall victim to the dangers that still haunt D.C.
